Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD)
Manual Lymphatic Drainage is a gentle style of massage used to encourage the flow of lymphatic fluid in the body. It is used to help reduce swelling and support recovery after injury or surgery. The technique can provide relief from swelling, fluid retention, and sensation of heaviness. It is designed to work at the skin level rather than deeper muscular levels of tissue, and is not painful to receive. Lymphatic drainage treatments are gentle, rhythmic, and soothing.
Rebecca Gorgitza RMT offers lymphatic drainage massage to support surgical recovery, recovery of sports injuries, acute injuries, acute or chronic inflammation, scars, bruising, and wounds. MLD can be helpful in reducing symptoms of many inflammatory conditions such as sinusitis, bursitis, arthritis, rosacea, dysmenorrhea/endometriosis, etc. The technique is shown to be beneficial for surgical healing when used prior to surgery, as well as post-surgery. It is also gentle enough to be considered tolerable for those with neuralgia or higher pain sensitivity.
Please be aware that at this stage of her training (Vodder Level 2 training), Rebecca is able to provide this service to people with intact lymphatic systems. If you have had a node removal, mastectomy, or surgery that may have removed other lymphatic structures please seek a Level 3 practitioner. At this time Rebecca is not able to offer MLD to those with active cancer, or going through radiation or chemotherapy.
MLD is not appropriate for everyone. Please contact Rebecca before booking if you have:
- a history of heart, kidney, or liver disease
- untreated deep vein thrombosis
- an active bacterial infection
- any diagnosed organ dysfunction
Frequently Asked Questions
Do you recommend chiropractic and massage?
Both massage and chiropractic work in harmony to help keep the body properly aligned, balanced and functioning optimally.
What should I wear to the massage appointment?
While most people undress completely, some elect to leave some clothing on such as underwear. You choose what level of comfort is right for you. Your massage therapist will respect your privacy at all times.
What will the massage feel like?
Deep tissue massage or trigger point therapies use deeper pressure and more intensive techniques. The pressure should always be within your comfort level. If you would like to receive less or more pressure at any time, just let your therapist know.
